Community Manager

We are looking for a personable, energetic, and active member of the Elite: Dangerous community who will be the point-of-contact for other community members who wish to air content on Radio Sidewinder, or who wish to work with us on organizing events. In addition to managing the various ongoing community projects at Radio Sidewinder, you would be tasked with acting as a “project manager” for specific projects. For example, if a clan wishes to air a new advertisement on Radio Sidewinder, you would work directly with the clan members to inform and guide that process. You would act as a liaison between community and the other Radio Sidewinder staff members, forwarding concerns from the community to the proper parties at Radio Sidewinder, and vice versa. Aside from having adequate communication skills, you will be required to help manage a shared Trello board for tracking the progress of our active community projects.Contact Commander Black-Bart, CEO

Galnet Technician I

Radio Sidewinder has been broadcasting Galnet News daily since early 3301, and we continue to do so every hour on-the-hour, 7 days a week. Making this happen is possible through the collective work of a team of Galnet Technicians, whose job is to convert the textual reports from Frontier Developments into audio broadcasts. These broadcasts are delivered by our legendary news anchors, Robot Rachel and Computer Pete.

The “Galnet Technician I” position is responsible for providing text-to-speech services for these reports, using pre-existing web-based tools which we will train you to use. Primarily, your job would be writing rather than audio editing. Although the Galnet Reports are pre-written, our news anchors typically end each segment with some words of their own to our listeners. These additional bits of copy may be provided by staff writers, but often are written directly by the technicians themselves. In addition to their writing skill, applicants will be expected to help maintain a shared Trello board. This position is a great way to get involved with audio production without the requirement for actually being able to edit audio! Technicians who wish to advance their skills can progress to the position of Galnet Technician II, where introductory-level skills are required in order to arrange and produce a broadcast-ready audio file.Contact ColdGlider, Audio Engineer

Galnet Technician II

Radio Sidewinder has been broadcasting Galnet News daily since early 3301, and we continue to do so every hour on-the-hour, 7 days a week. Making this happen is possible through the collective work of a team of Galnet Technicians, whose job is to convert the textual reports from Frontier Developments into audio broadcasts. These broadcasts are delivered by our legendary news anchors, Robot Rachel and Computer Pete.

The “Galnet Technician II” position is responsible for arranging and producing broadcast-ready audio files from the voiceover files provided by Galnet Technician I volunteers. This is accomplished by using a custom bedding template developed by Radio Sidewinder, implemented using the least-common-denominator (and free!) audio editing software, Audacity. Galnet “Tech Twos” are not responsible for writing any content. They should have proficiency with Audacity, be familiar with basic audio production concepts such as normalization and clipping, and be familiar with standard audio formats such as MP3 and WAV. They will be required to tag the final MP3 files according to our broadcast standard. Finally, they will be expected to help maintain a shared Trello board. This position is a great way for an entry-level audio technician to get involved with the Radio Sidewinder team. Tech Twos who develop an interest in writing content can progress to the Galnet Technician III position, where they would both write and produce the Galnet broadcasts.Contact ColdGlider, Audio Engineer

Galnet Technician III

Radio Sidewinder has been broadcasting Galnet News daily since early 3301, and we continue to do so every hour on-the-hour, 7 days a week. Making this happen is possible through the collective work of a team of Galnet Technicians, whose job is to convert the textual reports from Frontier Developments into audio broadcasts. These broadcasts are delivered by our legendary news anchors, Robot Rachel and Computer Pete.

The “Galnet Technician III” position is responsible for all of the duties of Galnet Technician I and II. They are a one-stop-shop for providing ready-to-broadcast audio files based on the Galnet News. Please see the job descriptions for Galnet Technician I and Galnet Technician II above, for more details. Typically, this position is filled by volunteers who have worked previously as Galnet Tech I or II.Contact ColdGlider, Audio Engineer

Radio Content Writer

We constantly need more content to keep our fans happy and entertained.  I’m looking for someone to help create that content. You don’t have to actually produce the audio as we now have a team of volunteers who can do the voice-overs and audio work.  If you have a great imagination, or can write up news reports that can then be read by our newscasters then perhaps you’d like to help out.
